Lambda Sensors

The compact SENSORS range of just four UNIVERSAL references covers most vehicle application requirements for the European market.

What Does The Lambda Sensor Do?

The lambda sensor measures the amount of unburned oxygen in the engine exhaust. It then sends a signal to the ECU, which adjusts the fuel & air mixture for optimum engine performance. The lambda sensor is important in controlling exhaust emissions.

Where is The Lambda Sensor Located?

The lambda sensor is situated in the exhaust manifold.

What Are The Failure Symptoms of the Lambda Sensor?

Common symptoms of lambda sensor failure include excessive fuel consumption, engine surges or stuttering, and the engine management light illuminating. Failure will also result in high hydrocarbon emissions, causing failure at an emissions check (part of the MOT process).

Maintenance Of The Lambda Sensor

It is recommended to change the lambda sensor every 30,000 miles. Periodic emission checks should also be done (these are done as part of the MOT testing process, and may cause the vehicle to fail the MOT).

What Else is The Lambda Sensor Commonly Called?

The lambda sensor is often also referred to as the oxygen sensor.
